Vehicles Involved & How To Apply for Vehicle Enter Permit


Starting July 1, 2025, foreign vehicles entering Malaysia must apply for a vehicle entry permit or VEP online.

If any foreign vehicle that does not register or activate this VEP will be sued by the JPJ before leaving Malaysia.

About Vehicle Entrance Permit (VEP)

The VEP is a permit issued by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) that allows the entry of foreign vehicles to Malaysia.

All foreign registered vehicles entering Peninsular Malaysia are required to register online for VEP.

The JPJ will issue a notice of summons to the owner of a foreign vehicle who does not register or activate the VEP in accordance with Section 66H (7) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333), where a foreign vehicle driving offense without a valid permit before entering or located in Malaysia.

Involved vehicles apply for a permit

The category of ownership of the vehicle to apply for this permit is as follows:

  • Private (vehicles owned by individuals, companies or organizations for private use)
  • Commercials (vehicles owned by the company and used for business purposes); and
  • Embassy/Government (government -owned vehicles, consulate or embassy)

Vep rfid tag installation

VEP registered vehicles will be provided with non-transferable VEP-RFID tags containing relevant information that identify the vehicle uniquely.

The VEP tag consists of RFID chips and antennas printed with unique images and tag serial numbers for each registered vehicle.

The safety features of this tag are as follows:

  • This tag uses the standard EPC Gen2V2 which provides a series of features aimed at improving security and prevents the forgery of tagged items, by enabling tag or reader authentication, and includes privacy features for users. Modern confirmation protocols and algorithms are used to prevent VEP-RFID tagging or cloning.
  • It is designed with anti-disruption and disruption. Once attached to the outer surface of the lamp, the VEP-RFID tag cannot be removed, otherwise the tag will not work again.

How to register vep

This permit registration can be made through the following steps:

  1. Visit the site
  2. In the sign up section, enter the required information and click the “Sign Up.” Button.
  3. Then, login by entering the email and password.
  4. Make registration until the end.

If they fail to do so, they will be subject to a notice of summons by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and will have to pay a fine of RM300 before leaving the country.

The summons can only be made in cash at the JPJ office, JPJ Mobile Mobile Counter or through online platforms like MyEG.

Do foreign vehicles need to register before entering Malaysia?

All foreign vehicles, whether private, commercial, public service, motorcycle or government -owned vehicles must register with the Road Transport Department (JPJ) before entering Malaysia. Registration can be made online through the JPJ Official Portal

Can I enter Malaysia if I haven’t got my RFID VEP tag?

Can. However, vehicle owners need to register and get the RFID VEP tag before October 1, 2024.

Can the RFID VEP tag registration and collection be made at the JPJ counter?

No. Currently, registrations can only be made through the official website of the Road Transport Department of Malaysia (JPJ) at the vehicle owner can obtain the RFID VEP tag either to the VEP Tag Collection Center (VCC) at Danga Bay / Woodlands or delivery by post to the owner’s address.

How can I check if the RFID VEP tag has expired?

Vehicle owners can check the expiry date of the RFID VEP tag via online portal. RFID VEP tag renewal notifications will be sent to vehicle owners 60 days, 30 days and 10 days before VEP expiration date.

What would happen if I didn’t sign up for VEP?

VEP registration through the web site is compulsory for all foreign vehicles that want to enter Malaysia. Any foreign vehicle entering Malaysia without a valid VEP permit is an offense under Section 66H (7) of APJ 1987. If convicted of a fine not exceeding RM2,000 or imprisonment of not exceeding six (6) months.

What should I do if I forget the VEP account password?

The account owner can reset online by pressing the Password Forgot button on the VEP portal.
