Toll Road without Cross, Anpr technology in Malaysia Starting Oct 2025


Malaysia’s open or non-toll-free toll system using an integrated digital platform (ANPR) recognized technology, will be implemented in stages on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) starting October 2025. The implementation of this system is a step towards establishing a multi-lane fast flow (MLFF) to ensure the smooth flow of traffic, as well as facilitate consumers.

What is Anpr?

ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) is a capable smart camera system Detects, reads and records vehicle plate numbers automatically.

This technology is used in many countries for Road enforcement, automatic parking, and electronic toll collection.

In Malaysia, the ANPR will be the core of the system toll without a baran innovation of highway industry that will change the way we pay tolls.

ANPR technology uses high -resolution cameras to automatically identify vehicle plate numbers, which are then matched to the physical image of the vehicle using artificial intelligence (AI).

What is MLFF?

MLFF (Multi Lane Free Flow) is an electronic toll collection system without a bar and endlesslywhere vehicles do not need to slow down or stop in the toll lane.

Payment is done automatically using teknologi Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) And this means that no more toll plazas are causing congestion on the highway.

When will the without a bar toll be used in Malaysia?

Open Toll / Toll Payment System Using Automated Automatic Plate Recognition (ANPR) Technology Supported Integrated Digital Platform, will be implemented in stages on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) starting October 2025.

According to the Minister of Works, the government focuses on implementing MLFF is fully in the next two yearswith ANPR as a technical basis for the system.

Where will the toll without the bar be implemented?

As a pilot project, it involves the village forest route to Sungai Dua in Penang.

The system will be tested at 13 toll plazas involving 35 lanes before expanding in stages to the entire Plus range.

How is the payment made?

No more physical cards or additional tools – just a list of vehicle plate numbers in the application Justgoand keep driving. Toll payments are made automatically via your debit/credit or e-wallet card registered in this app.

Through an integrated digital platform, users can go through any non-stop toll lane with a variety of digital payment modes, transaction reviews and e-invoic display.

Registration can be made online at no charge.

This open toll payment system is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Works (KKR), the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) and highway concessionaires.

Do motorcyclists need to pay tolls?

No. The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) asserted No changes to the category of vehicles charged tollincluding motorcyclists.

This statement denies allegations that motorcycles will be tolled from October, which is spread on social media. LLM described the information as false and misleading. The LLM urged the public to refer to official sources and not disseminate false information.
