Can you install solar at home and claim a cash rebate? Yes, that’s right. The SuRIA Home program offers government cash rebates up to RM3,000 for the installation of a solar PV system in your home.

This initiative under the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) was introduced specifically to encourage Malaysians to switch to green energy.

This step not only helps us face the challenge of rising global energy costs, but also supports the country’s target to reach 70% renewable energy capacity by 2050.

What is SuRIA Home?

SuRIA Home is a new initiative of PETRA introduced to help and encourage people to reduce electricity costs through the installation of solar roof systems in their homes.

This initiative was announced by YAB Datuk Amar Fadillah bin Haji Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister
concurrently Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation during the PETRA Monthly Assembly at Menara PETRA on 22 May 2026.

This program is implemented as part of the Government’s measures to help the people face the challenges of the global supply crisis (GBG) following the increase in energy costs and the uncertainty of the global energy market due to geopolitical conflicts in West Asia.

In addition, this initiative was also introduced to speed up the national energy transition agenda as recommended by the Government.

The implementation of this solar rebate initiative will involve an allocation of RM150 million that will be given to those who install rooftop solar systems on their homes.

In general, the implementation of this initiative reflects the Government’s commitment to ensure that the benefits of the energy transition can be felt directly by the people, in line with the principles of inclusiveness, sustainability and national energy security.

SuRIA Home Solar Rebate Information
  • One-time cash rebate: RM600/kWac up to a maximum of RM3,000 (subject to SuRIA Home terms and conditions).
  • The grant of rebates is based on the principle of “first come, first served” for Solar ATAP installations that successfully start commissioning until December 31, 2026 or until the rebate quota of RM150 million is distributed, whichever is earlier.
  • Eligible customers will receive notification via e-mail registered with TNB in ​​stages starting June 1, 2026 to send preferred local bank account information.
  • The rebate will be credited into the local bank account of the customer’s choice after confirmation by TNB.

How Much Solar Rebate Value is Offered?

Domestic users who install a Solar ATAP system and meet the eligibility criteria can receive a rebate of RM600 for every 1kWac of solar installation up to the maximum RM3,000simultaneously 5kWac.

This is expected to benefit between 45,000 to 50,000 homes with a cumulative solar capacity of around 250MW.

Suria Home Solar Rebate Implementation Date

The implementation of this rebate starts on 1 Jun 2026 and it is subject to principles first come, first served.

This initiative is open to solar installations under the Solar ATAP program that start operating for a period until 31 December 2026 or until the 250MW quota is met, whichever is earlier.

For eligible customers, email notifications will be sent in stages starting June 1, 2026.

Who Can Claim SuRIA Home Rebate?

To claim the SuRIA Home Rebate, users must meet the following conditions:

  • TNB individual customers under the Domestic tariff (excluding companies)
    *Each customer is eligible to receive ONE rebate onlya
  • Solar ATAP installation that successfully commissioned until December 31, 202
  • Malaysian citizens
  • No prior cash rebates are accepted under the SolaRIS program

You will be contacted within 24 hours for a personal SuRIA Home assessment.

Rebate Distribution Method

Eligible users will be notified via email registered with TNB to send bank account details.

Rebate payments will be channeled directly to a local bank account under the name of a registered TNB customer after confirmation of the application made by TNB

How to Apply for Solar Cash Rebate 2026 – SuRIA Home

To apply for a SuRIA Home solar cash rebate, refer to the methods below:

Step 1: The customer plans to install a solar photovoltaic (PV) system on the residential premises.

Step 2: The customer appoints a Registered Solar PV Service Provider (RPVSP) for solar PV installation and Solar ATAP application on behalf of the customer. For more information: www.seda.gov.my/rpvsp

Step 3: RPVSP installs solar PV systems for customers.

Step 4: Customers sign a Solar ATAP contract after solar PV installation is completed (TNB meter conversion will be done if applicable).

Step 5: Customers receive an email from TNB as a confirmation of joining the Solar ATAP program.

Step 6: The customer receives an email from TNB regarding the SuRIA Home application, while the RPVSP is informed about the customer’s eligibility.

Step 7: The customer fills in the details in the form provided, namely:

  • Full Name
  • Identification Card Number
  • Bank Name
  • Bank Account Number*
  • Customer Verification & Terms and Conditions
  • *Bank account details filled in must be in the name of a registered TNB customer.

Step 8: Customers receive a SuRIA Home cash rebate confirmation email upon submission of details. The cash rebate will be transferred to the local bank account of the customer’s choice within seven (7) working days, subject to bank processing time.

Step 9: Customers receive an email notification that the cash rebate transfer has been successful.
