Want to continue studying in TVET but worried about the cost of studying? B40 TVET Scholarship by the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) offers tuition fee sponsorship as well as pocket money allowance to students from eligible B40 families.

What is the B40 TVET Scholarship?

B40 TVET Scholarship is a sponsorship program created specifically to help SPM graduate from B40 family continuing studies to a higher level, especially in the field of TVET.

This program involves studying at institutions that offer TVET programs that have been obtained full or provisional recognition from the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).

According to the Ministry of Higher Education, this initiative focuses on students studying at:

  • Malaysian Technical Universities (MTUN)
  • Malaysian Polytechnic
  • Community College

In addition, this program also involves several other TVET institutions that are designated according to the current sponsorship policy.

Objectives of the B40 TVET Scholarship

This program was introduced to achieve several main goals, including:

  • Expand access to higher education for students from B40 families.
  • Reduce the financial burden of students throughout the study period.

1,000 Sponsorship Quota Per Year

As a continuous effort by the government to empower TVET education, as many as 1,000 sponsorship quotas are provided every year.

This quota provides opportunities for more students from B40 families to obtain quality education and further increase their employability after graduation.

General Terms

  • Malaysian citizens;
  • Applicants must be free of chronic/infectious diseases/diseases that require follow-up treatment and be able to follow their studies until completion, as well as be certified healthy to continue their studies;
  • The mother and/or father and/or applicant is not blacklisted by PSD or is currently in legal action by PSD;
  • Applicants who have been subject to termination of sponsorship for breaching the terms of the agreement by JPA are not eligible to apply;
  • If successfully offered PSD sponsorship, the applicant is not allowed to receive financial assistance/sponsorship from any party at the same level of study;
  • Sitting the SPM exam for the first time at any secondary school including special schools, private schools or private candidates;
  • Not yet 19 years old, or not yet 20 years old for transfer students on December 31 of the year the SPM exam is taken; and
  • Per capita income in the B40 category which is RM5,249.00 per month and below.

Special Conditions

For identified Public Universities (UA), Polytechnics and Private Higher Education Institutes (IPTS):

  • Sit SPM and get honors for the subjects Malay Language and History and get at least grade C in any of the other three subjects taken; and
  • Have received an offer/ have registered at the institution of study.

For TVETMARA such as MARA Skills Institute (IKM)/ MARA High Skills College (KKTM)/ Japan-Malaysia Technical Institute (JMTI) and other Public Training Skills Institutes (ILKA) such as National Youth High Skills Institute (IKTBN)/ High Technology Training Center (ADTEC):

  • Sit SPM and get honors for Malay and History subjects and get at least grade C in any other subject taken; and
  • Have received an offer/ have registered at the institution of study.

  • Public University (UA)
  • Polytechnic
  • TVETMARA such as the MARA Skills Institute (IKM), the MARA High Skills College (KKTM) and the Japan-Malaysia Technical Institute (JMTI) as well as the selected Public Skills Training Institutions (ILKA) namely the National Youth High Skills Institute (IKTBN) and the High Technology Training Center (ADTEC).
