July 25, 2025

In an effort to strengthen science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education in Malaysia, the Ministry of Education Malaysia (KPM) introduced the upper secondary STEM package as a flexible and strategic route for students.
This package allows students to select subjects more organized by interest, ability, and future career direction.
In the past, students in Form 4 were categorized as a stream of science or literature, science or literary flow had been replaced by STEM A, STEM B, STEM C and Humanitarian Subjects.
This approach aims to provide a clearer guidance for students and parents in choosing the right educational stream, while ensuring the continuity of interest and expertise in STEM fields.
What is the KPM STEM package?

The STEM package is a KPM initiative designed to form competent and competitive students in science and technology related fields.
It involves a combination of core and elective subjects, with emphasis on high -level thinking skills, problem solving, and the application of technology in learning.
The main goal of this package is to:
- Support the Malaysian Education Development Plan (PPPM) towards high -income countries
- Increase student participation in stem field
- Provide students for higher education opportunities in technical and professional fields
The Subject Subject Criterion This STEM was announced by the MOE through the KPM Siara Letter of 2021 below:
Previously, students were often confronted with a wide selection of elective subjects, which sometimes caused a non-strategic selection or a strategic selection for STEM career path.
With this package, the KPM provides clearer guidelines, but still offers certain flexibility.
