What are SMART Lanes?
SMART LANE is the activation of the leftmost lane on the PLUS Expressway on some critical routes on the expressway aimed at increasing lane capacity on the expressway, especially on the routes involved and implemented to disperse traffic flow to reduce congestion.
It was first introduced in 2019 at the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) and is now being extended to other locations along the PLUS expressway.

This system doesn’t just randomly open emergency lanes. It involves careful planning and continuous monitoring to ensure the safety of road users. SMART Lane is activated in strategic locations that have been identified as areas that often experience critical congestion.
As of this year, PLUS Malaysia Berhad has expanded the use of SMART Lane to more locations, demonstrating the effectiveness of this system.
According to a study conducted by the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS), over 70% of road users who have used SMART lanes agree that this system is effective in reducing congestion.
However, the use of this lane requires cooperation and awareness from all road users.
There have been several incidents where drivers who do not know about this system have reprimanded or interfered with vehicles using the SMART lane.
Let’s look at the infographic below:
The PLUS party is still actively sharing about this lane to increase awareness and understanding of this system.
Improvements
Among the improvements implemented on the Smart Lane route are mobile electronic signage (MPVMS) placed at the start of the SMART Lane route.
The start sign will be equipped with a green flashing light (Green Flashing Light) as an indication that the Smart Lane route is activated and can be used in certain locations.
In addition, PLUS also adds warning signs at 500 meter intervals until the end of the route at the Smart Lane location that has been identified.
How to Use SMART Lane
The use of SMART lanes requires compliance with some basic guidelines, namely:
1. Pay attention to the signage
SMART Lane is marked with a large yellow sign. You will see a “SMART Lane Start” sign at the start and a “SMART Lane End” sign at the end. Along the route, warning signs are placed every 500 meters.

2. Wait for the activation signal
PLUS has added a flashing green light every 1 kilometer to indicate that the SMART Lane has been activated.
3. Enter with caution
Before entering the SMART Lane, signal early and change lanes carefully.
4. Drive safely
Once in this lane, drive at an appropriate speed (60km/h) and always be aware of the surrounding conditions. Keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front.
5. Be careful with wide vehicles
Since this lane uses the existing emergency lane, it may be quite narrow. Be careful of large vehicles in adjacent lanes.
6. Exit at the end
When you see the “SMART Lane End” sign, be prepared to exit that lane. Give an early signal to change to the slow lane.
USE:
- Use only during congestion: These SMART lanes are intended to be used during traffic congestion. If the road is not congested, it is better to use the normal lane.
- Remember that the use of this lane is only allowed at locations and operating hours that have been announced by PLUS
Refer to the following video for more detailed info on how to use SMARTLane:
How to Identify SMART Lane for Sure
- An active Smart Lane is indicated by a flashing green traffic light above the yellow emergency lane sign.
- These lights are installed every 500 meters to 1 km along the active route.
- Notification signs appear 500 meters to 1 km before the starting location.

SMART Lane 2026 FAQ
Smart Lane is an emergency lane that is temporarily activated for light vehicles to reduce congestion during festive seasons such as Hari Raya and Chinese New Year.
Only light vehicles such as passenger cars can use SmartLane; motorcycles, buses, trucks are strictly prohibited. Violation can result in a fine of up to RM300 and 3 license points.
Enter the Smart Lane after seeing the flashing green lights and signs; signal, check mirrors, and change lanes slowly below 60 km/h. Exit before the “Smart Lane End” sign to avoid penalties.
You can identify it through three main signs:
– Green/Yellow Signs: There are “Start SMART Lane” and “End SMART Lane” warning signs.
– Flashing Green Light: In some locations, there is a small green traffic light that flashes to indicate a passable lane.
– Officer/Police: Presence of traffic members or PLUS operating lorries who give signals.
Call PLUSLine at 1800-88-0000 or use the MyPLUS-TTA app for immediate anxiety help.
Even if you are in the extra lane, the recommended speed limit is a maximum of 60km/h. This is because the lane is narrower than a normal lane and is intended for traffic flow, not for cutting.
You can check the activation status via:
MyPLUS-TTA app: Latest traffic information.
Waze/Google Maps app: Will usually show changing traffic zones.
PakarPBN
A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.
In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.
The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
