Introduction of SOCSO 24/7 Protection Scheme
The 24/7 Protection Scheme is a social protection scheme introduced by SOCSO to provide protection to formal sector workers in Malaysia at all times, i.e. 24 hours a day, seven days a week, regardless of the time, place or situation of the incident.
Through this amendment:
✅ Accident protection is no longer tied to working hours.
✅ More than 9.6 million active contributors receive benefits.
✅ Resolved more than 12,306 claims that were previously rejected because they happened outside of working hours.
✅ SOCSO protection is strengthened with medical benefits, disability, dependents, permanent service allowance, funeral management, rehabilitation & education.
In a nutshell, this scheme covers protection against accidents and injuries that occur outside of work, on holiday, at home, in public places, or while doing personal business, not just while at work.

Target
The main target of the 24/7 Protection Scheme is formal sector workers in Malaysia, which are approximately 10 million workers registered under SOCSO.
This scheme is not limited to employees at work, but also includes protection when at home, public places, or on daily trips.
With this target, more workers will be protected from financial risks due to accidents outside the workplace, as well as helping to ease the burden on their families.

How to Make a Claim
At the moment specific guidelines for making a 24-hour Protection Scheme claim have not yet been published in detail.
However, the claim process is likely to be very similar to the existing SOCSO benefit claim, with differences in accident criteria (not limited to work accidents only).
The basic steps of the claim are as follows:
1. Report an accident or incident
- Immediately notify the employer and seek treatment at a clinic/hospital; keep all medical reports and sick leave certificates.
- For accident cases, there should usually be a police report and a sketch map if it involves a road accident (for example going to/from work or outside the workplace).
2. Fill in the relevant claim form
- SOCSO now uses standard forms and notices such as Form 34 (Accident Report), death notice, or disability notice, depending on the type of benefit claimed.
- Forms can be downloaded from PERKESO’s benefit portal or filled out online through the claim portal (for example the benefit protection portal which is being expanded for applications without having to come to the office).
3. Prepare supporting documents
- Copy of Identity Card, salary slip, medical report, sick leave certificate, police report (if relevant), and any other proof of incident requested in the form guide.
- For heirs’ claims (death), it is necessary to include a death certificate and a relationship verification document such as a marriage certificate or a child’s birth certificate.
4. Send claim to SOCSO
- Claims can be submitted at the nearest SOCSO office counter, or through the online portal provided for benefit applications.
- Save the application reference number for status checks and any appeals at a later date.
5. Review, approval and payment
- SOCSO will check the eligibility of contributions, confirm the facts of the incident and the medical report before deciding the type and rate of interest that is eligible to be paid.
- Interest payments are usually credited directly to the recipient’s bank account after approval, just like other SOCSO interest schemes.
You can come to the nearest SOCSO office for any questions or confusion.
Positive Impact of 24/7 Protection Scheme
- 24/7 protection for formal sector workers regardless of time, place or when doing personal business, not just working hours.
- Closing the old gap when accident claims outside working hours were previously often rejected because they were not “work disasters”.
- Easing the financial burden of employees and families through treatment benefits, disability allowances, dependents’ benefits and funeral benefits.
- Strengthen the country’s social protection network and coordinate with the hybrid/flexible work trend that blurs the boundaries of work time and personal time.
- Reduces pressure on the public health system as part of the costs of contributory treatment and rehabilitation are borne through this contribution-based scheme.
