Sarawak Bilingual Program Assessment Examination for Year 6 students, forced to start October 2025

By 2020, Sarawak decided to adopt the teaching and learning of Science and Mathematics in English at all national schools in Sarawak, beginning with 1st year students.

Sarawak is the only state in Malaysia to do so. The total number of schools in Sarawak who taught science and mathematics in English by 2025 was about 1,047 schools.

The first cohort of the students under the Sarawak DLP was in Year 6 in 2025. Therefore, the Sarawak DLP Assessment Test (UP-DLP Sarawak) was introduced to measure student performance in science, mathematics and English subjects objectively.

What is the Sarawak Bilingual Program Evaluation Test?

UPDLP Sarawak or the Sarawak Dual Language Program (Sarawak Program Assessment Test) is a standard examination for Year 6 students throughout Sarawak designed to evaluate student skills and knowledge in STEM fields.

This test is designed specifically for Year Six students who participate in the Bilingual Program (DLP) in selected schools throughout Sarawak.

The main goal of the Updlp is to ensure that students are not only fluent in both languages, but are able to effectively use both in a variety of learning situations and daily life.

More than 28,000 Sarawak DLP students are expected to occupy Sarawak UP-DLP by 2025.

The results of this test will provide important data to MEITD and JPNS to improve the implementation of the Sarawak DLP and to formulate more effective STEM education policies and programs.

UPDLP DATE

The Sarawak Bilingual Program Evaluation Test for Year Six students will begin on 15And October 16, 2025.

The test will be conducted for two days:

• Day 1: English and Mathematics
• Day 2: Science

Each subject will be tested through a combination of multiple choice questions and simple answer questions, except for mathematics that will consist of simple answer questions.

Subject Updlp

The subjects involved are the subjects of Science, Mathematics and English. The examination papers for each subject consist of a combination of multiple choice questions and short answer questions.

Each examination paper will have a period of one hour and fifteen minutes.

Who is eligible for Sarawak Updlp?

Students who are studying in Year 6 in schools participating in the Sarawak DLP program are eligible to take the Sarawak DLP Assessment Exam (UP-DLP Sarawak).

How to Register Updlp 2025

Student registration will be implemented automatically through their respective schools.

All eligible students will be registered in a pre-registration through the UP-DLP portal by the Sarawak State Education Department and certified by their respective schools.

Decision official is expected to be announced on the month December 2025.
