Background of the Malaysian Film Festival
The Malaysian Film Festival which started in 1980 is an annual national level event organized by the government through FINAS.
2025 will be the 34th edition of the festival.

Yes, FFM34 will be broadcast live by Radio Television Malaysia (RTM).
Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) was appointed as a strategic partner and official broadcaster of FFM34.
The opening date for FFM34 participation is 8 July 2025 and the closing date for FFM34 participation is 18 July 2025.
Eligible films are feature films, short films and documentaries.
For feature films, short films and documentaries, film producers must have a Film Production License from FINAS valid until 31 December 2025.
1. The required criteria for the feature film category is a local feature film released in Malaysia and approved by the Film Censorship Board (LPF). This film has never participated in the Malaysian Film Festival series and has been screened in local cinemas throughout Malaysia starting from 01 July 2024 to 30 June 2025.
2. The required criteria for the short film category is a film that has never participated in the Malaysian Film Festival series and the screening date on any platform starts from 101 July 2024 to 30 June 2025.
3. The criteria required for the documentary category is a documentary film that has never participated in the Malaysian Film Festival series and has been approved by the Film Censor Board (LPF) and has been screened on any platform from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2025.
4. All candidates must be Malaysian citizens or permanent residents

A total of six (6) non-contested award categories for the 34th Malaysian Film Festival series. The non-contested categories are as follows:

A new category to compete in this year is the Best Horror Action and Stunt Award.
A total of sixty-six (66 films) feature films that go through the Mandatory Screening Scheme are eligible to compete. However, feature films that do not go through the Mandatory Screening Scheme but are shown in local cinemas between 1 July 2024 and 30 June 2025 are also welcome to participate in the competition.
The total number of entries in the previous FFM33 was one hundred and four (104) entries. That is, seventy (70) are feature films, twenty one (21) are short films and thirteen (13) are documentaries.
The last FFM33 was held on 08 December 2024 at Auditorium Seri Angkasa, Angkasapuri, Kota Media.
The total number of categories contested at FFM33 in 2024 is twenty-four (24) categories.
